Herding

We are extremely pleased to say that the first Dancing Skies aussie has achieved  her ASCA Working Trial Championship (WTCH)!!!

                                         A VERY great CONGRATULATIONS to

WTCH  Dancing Skies Total Eclipse CDX  RTDs  “Ling”

Ling is owned by Diamond Aire Kennel and we warmly thank Marie Murphy for making this championship a reality.

Although we have consciously bred for herding instinct in our aussies,  there        has been very little opportunity for them to train for herding trials or to compete in Scandinavia.  The first ASCA trials were recently arranged in Finland and in Sweden.

Dancing Skies would like to heartily congratulate its first dog to achieve an ASCA started title in Scandinavia.  Warm congratulations to both Sparky and her owner, Anna Aukia-Toivonen.

                                               Dancing Skies Starburst STDs  “Sparky”

Several of our dogs do work on farms with sheep, cows and one works with reindeer.

Eyes:

In 12 years of breeding aussies, we have had almost no probems with eyes in our dogs.  Except for a 7 week old puppy with a possible case of PPM (Persistent Pupiliary Membrane), all have been healthy. In August 2007 one 4 ½ year old male was diagnosed with a Grade 1 cataract in one eye.  At this time it is not possible to say if it is genetic or not.

Other health issues

Dancing Skies dogs have been remarkably healthy over the years.  We have had 3 serious cases of illness over recent years, however:

In April 2004 , a 6½ year old male died from AIHA, which is an autoimmune disease.  The vet said it was brought on by a reaction to antibiotics/cortisone used to treat a bladder infection.

In December 2004  5½ year old Dancing Skies Sunsinger  (Dancing Skies Denali  X FIN CH Nowagga’s Dark Side of the Moon) had 3 serious seizures.  Extensive tests were done and a diagnosis of epilepsy was reached.

With the aid of medication Santtu continued to live an active life, competing in obedience and agility.  In the end, however, the disease became too much for him and in May 2007 his family made the painful decision to let him go.  Dancing Skies offers its heartfelt condolences to Santtu’s family.

FIN EST CH BALTW-00  Dancing Skies Sunsinger BH  “Santtu”

In August 2007 a 6 year old male was diagnosed with Trombosytopenia.  The cause of this condition is unclear but he is recovering well.
