Lapland's Home to Australian Shepherds
Dancing Skies is located far above the Arctic Circle in Norwegian Lapland in the small municipality
of Kåfjord (Gaivuona). Originally moving from Alaska to Finland in 1975, we moved to Norway in 2002.

We must live in one of the most beautiful places in the world!
In November 2008, we moved into a farmhouse we bought in the tiny village of Djupvik. There is not a single day that we do not wake up in amazement to live in such a place! The view of the fjord and the Lyngen Alps is both majestic and soul-stirring. Three resident moose keep our bushes pruned, large flocks of wild geese arrive to our beach in the spring and eagles soar overhead daily. From the house we have also seen porpoises, foxes, otters and all sorts of ducks and seabirds. Last summer a humpback whale visited us several times.
Our land runs down to the sea and offers nice beachcombing opportunites for both humans and 4-leggeds. Of course the dogs are often much more attracted to the smelly kinds of treasures, while we are more attracted to driftwood, seashells and glass floats.
We have an old barn and enough land to get a few animals. We look forward to training in herding with our aussies.
We are 2 1/2 hours from Tromsø, a city known as "Paris of the North"
and 140 kilometers from the Finnish border at Kilpisjärvi.

Thousands of sheep roam the area freely in the summertime.
Many of the people living in Kåfjord are of Sámi background.
The Sámi, earlier known as Lapps, are Europe's Indigenous People.
Each July a large international indigenous people's festival is held
nearby in Manndalen. (For information: http://www.riddu.com/ )
We keep a boat in the harbour and spend many happy days just fishing and enjoying the sea. We look forward to many years of exploring the region's many breathtakingly beautiful places.
As far as we are concerned, we have come to paradise, both for ourselves and for our aussies.
We would like to warmly welcome you to visit us here. Folks interested in us or our aussies are always welcome to drop in. A cup of coffee or tea is always handy.
In case you are too far away to drop by, we welcome you to get to know something about us and our aussies by visiting our website here. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Call, write, send an email or just drop in for that cup of coffee!
